Original marbled endpapers, Woodcut headpieces and tailpieces, and numerous COPPERPLATE ENGRAVINGS, unsigned or engraved by Alard, Bertin, Crescent, and Savart. Index leaves. QUITE AN EXCELLENT COPY, the leaves fresh and almost entirely clean, the plates in rich impressions. The plates here, charming without attaining the highest level of artistic achievement, provide essentially the same images as those appearing in the Paris octavo printing of the "Fables" issued in 1765-75, which itself copies the celebrated 1755-59 folio version of La Fontaine with plates by Jean Baptiste Oudry.
