Food is separated into five different categories: mucilaginous (including carrots, beets, asparagus, spinach, artichokes, beans, melons); sugar (figs, dates, prunes, apricots, and raisins); oils (including chocolate, olives, and nuts); grains (including rice, corn, peas, lentils, and potatoes); acidulous (including oranges, cherries, peaches, strawberries, grapes, and pears); gelatinous; fibrous; tonic food (bitter tasting food); and "alimens excitans" (including celery, onions, coffee, and tea).
